The weather is forecast to be sunny this Thursday, though not very warm (51 degrees, brrr). Wouldn't it be nice to have one more hike with THE mountain views. A few weeks ago we hiked Naches Loop, even though Mt Rainier hid, the hike was beautiful. This hike is across Highway 410 and this time we WILL see Mt Rainier, plus Mount Adams, Mount St Helens, Norse Peak and the Crystal Lakes Basin. Wow!!!
The hike to Sourdough Gap is 6 miles round trip with 1100 feet elevation gain on a moderate grade. If you choose to venture out a bit further (maybe add one more mile?) we would get views of the Crystal Lakes and peak north too.
Meet at Safeway Enumclaw, 152 Roosevelt Avenue E at 8:00 am to then travel east on Highway 410 (Chinook Pass Highway) about 44 miles. Half a mile before (west of) Chinook Pass, park at the Tipsoo Lake parking area. If you prefer, you can meet at the parking area at 9:00 am. Or if several people are leaving the same area, they can make their own arrangements for getting to the trailhead. Check the signups on the snojoke.org website and click on names for attendee’s locations. Northwest Forest Pass required or the America the Beautiful pass.
Naches Tavern in Greenwater (unless other suggestions offered) will be our watering hole after the hike. Yukky weather will cancel, check with trip leader if in doubt.
